Each of us is exposed to countless challenges in our professional and private lives. In many respects, time and performance pressure determine our everyday lives to such an extent that our actual needs are sidelined. Not only is our mental balance at risk, our physical well-being also suffers enormously from this condition. Frighteningly, however, we often don’t even realize how wrongly and unnecessarily our bodies are constantly being stressed.
The consequences are omnipresent: migraine attacks and chronic head and neck pain caused by sitting in front of a screen for long periods of time, a constantly aching mouse arm, back problems caused by loading heavy boxes, hardened muscles due to monotonous manual production tasks, overstressed hip or knee joints and even slipped discs. Unfortunately, the nationwide statistics speak a clear language here, because a lot of physical symptoms are actually caused by harmful poor posture.
Although doctors, physiotherapists and masseurs do their utmost to calm the overstimulation of the muscles and joints and alleviate any pain that has occurred, further steps are needed to achieve lasting improvement.
Above all, much greater importance must be attached to preventive measures. Because many people don’t know this: Sometimes certain changes in behavior are enough to feel relief. You can also make use of the support provided by the ergonomics of the relationship (smart furniture and other aids) to make certain movement sequences easier.
This is exactly where the Institute for Health and Ergonomics comes in, whose mission is to focus on the topic of maintaining health. We are therefore committed to the development and certification of ergonomic products as well as the promotion of ergonomic workplace design. We also strive to raise general awareness and create the necessary awareness in companies and authorities of the crucial economic factor that employee health represents in the long term.
Originally a community of interest for back training instructors, we have developed a very broad base over time and, in the course of our more than 25 years of existence, have accumulated a wealth of experience from which you can also benefit directly. Since our foundation at the end of the 1990s, the IGR has been based in the Franconian city of Nuremberg, although our radius of action is by no means limited to this region.
On the contrary: in order to be up to date at all times, we maintain close cooperation with authorities, manufacturers, physiotherapists, ergonomics experts, dealers and those responsible for occupational health management throughout Germany. The IGR is also in constant contact with the scientific community and incorporates its latest findings into all activities.
We see ourselves as an expert center for all questions relating to ergonomic solutions and help our partners to develop health-promoting products. By incorporating our expertise into the development process, important details can be taken into account much better from the outset. The result is a marketable product that provides physical relief for many people.
And creative companies that have already independently realized particularly ergonomically impressive ideas or innovations are also in the right place with us. With our biennial “Ergonomics Innovation Award”, we reward these achievements with a certificate and a trophy.
The IGR is also known for awarding its own seal of quality, which serves as a valuable guide for customers when choosing healthy products. In order to receive this, the article must fulfill a strict catalog of criteria and undergo various test procedures before its quality is finally confirmed. We carry out several certifications every year, which open up significantly better sales options for the respective manufacturers. In addition, successfully certified products can use our website as a platform for greater brand presence.
Although the professional context has priority in many of our tasks, helpful articles for private use are by no means left out. For example, we certify manufacturers of seating concepts, office furniture, book bags, bicycle accessories, workplace accessories, shoes, industrial solutions, upholstered furniture and much more. The focus is always on the adaptability of the products to people’s anatomy. The areas of application are actually much broader than you might think. Even eye-friendly lighting concepts and convenient tools for comfortable gardening have already been tested and certified by us in cooperation.
Our cause should also be publicized beyond the country’s borders in order to reach even more people with ergonomically sensible products. This is why we are also establishing international commercial agencies abroad to represent IGR abroad in accordance with our quality standards.

The Institute for Health and Ergonomics supports companies in an advisory capacity to promote occupational health. This is rarely achieved with off-the-shelf methods; as a rule, the approach must be adapted to the individual circumstances of the company in order to be sustainable.
Thanks to our user-friendly HUMEN® software, it is possible to analyze your workstations yourself. While HUMEN® Office was designed to take a close look at the posture of employees at their desks, HUMEN® Dynamics can be used to analyze all work areas in production, trade and logistics.
The analysis is carried out by recording a video and can be performed using the HUMEN® Dynamics expert package or the HUMEN® Dynamics app. The analysis identifies relevant stresses on employees’ muscles and joints. This allows the current status quo to be compared with the desirable target status. Both variants can therefore be used wonderfully to illustrate and minimize existing weaknesses in the area of behavioural and ratio ergonomics.
Fortunately, there are countless options available today to ensure ergonomics at the workplace – be it height-adjustable conference tables, electric lifting devices or modern production workstations that can be adjusted to your own height in a few simple steps. Even when seated, ergonomics can be experienced with office chairs, workplace accessories and height-adjustable desks, for example.
We put all the specialist and industry knowledge we have acquired into practice for the benefit of our customers and cooperation partners. There is therefore no question that we share our wealth of expertise in various ways. First and foremost, this happens in the course of our own seminars and training courses, which convey a deep understanding of how to operate more ergonomically at the workplace.
Our participants are made aware of health risk factors in everyday working life and learn how to make small changes to their sitting or standing posture to contribute to a much healthier posture. The knowledge acquired also helps to uncover and rectify problems in the working environment. Above all, however, course participants can also act as multipliers, inspiring other colleagues and making helpful recommendations, which has a positive and visible impact on the company.
The IGR Academy also includes our Knowledge Center. Behind this is an extensive database covering all aspects of ergonomics. You will find news, video material and downloads and gain an insight into scientific research results.
Even though amazing things have already been achieved to date, we are not satisfied with this status quo, but are constantly expanding our own knowledge and striving to reach an even wider audience. To this end, we also conduct our own studies at the Institute for Health and Ergonomics. In addition, we implement forward-looking ideas and enter into exciting collaborations, as a result of which the extensive network of our work continues to grow and give rise to unprecedented fields of application.
